I'm wondering how we support our teachers with these changes? Where do we start? And how do we "find" time for them to have meaningful conversations about the thinking and learning in their classrooms?
I think if we can introduce the changes, while at the same time use things that teachers are already using to help implement the changes, that would be beneficial. If we can show teachers that we are not completely reinventing the wheel, but rather improving things they are already doing, it would lead to more buy in. Obviously so need more improvement than others, but if we can show that in the context of some of the lessons they already use, that may be better.
Another thought I have about this is the use of teacher coaches. We already have some people doing the CCS so is it possible to video tape them or have them give presentations during our PLC time to show the rest of the staff what CCS looks like?
I believe that as leaders, we also change the way we do our work. This blog is an example. We lead by example of our expectations so we understand e tools and model possible uses, while opening up the dialogue for new ideas. As for time, we should examine the time we currently have and reinvent how we use it. My hope is that a new PD model will open up other possibilities as well.
I think modeling is always a great strategy. I know that I learn best when I see something in action. I like the idea of using PLC time to do some modeling. I also agree with using tools and strategies that we expect our teachers to use during our own meetings with each other and our staff(s).
